Yes, great news for the Club and its members and the long term upkeep of our wonderful soft tops, well done Laurence ?
Ps, please let me know what the targa rubbers are likely to cost too when you have more ideaLaurence, in my experience the new material can slightly shrink after a few months due to general weather conditions, washing/drying out etc etc so I would maybe allow for that when it’s been made. My tonneau cover is quite tight and aligning the poppers can be a tricky affair, then again my cover has seen decades of use

Not looking good Gerben, there must be a supplier somewhere though
Photos please Russ, I’m curious what they look like

That answer could be tricky unless Old MOT records can be accessible, good thought though….
Alex,
I have taken pictures of the rear of the badge and highlighted in a dab of white the location of each plastic peg which will have the securing metal grommet attached. Simply carefully pull these off the pegs with thin nose pliers or using the edge of thin flat headed screwdriver gently tease them off. A little WD40 on each peg prior will help reduce the risks of breaking them offGreat information Alex, thank you for taking the time to share with us all:-)
Hi Alex, yes they have straight plastic pegs on the rear of the badge that pass through holes in the boot lid. The badge is then secured in position by pushing a fixing grommet over each peg. The grommet is made of metal and has three fingers to it if that makes sense. Careful removal of these will hopefully keep your pegs intact so refitting as a matter of the opposite procedure. The part number for the grommets is BAC1681. Whether they are still available i don’t know.
Here’s the answer Folks:-

Stink of petrol in the cabin on my Cabby too. Look forward to the Article ?
I’m just happy to finally have the correct badge on my Cabriolet. Beggars can’t be choosers as they say 🙂
Much faster and easier if someone else does the work for you John 🙂
Great information on the topic, just what this Forum is for. Thanks
Great news John, buy them all and I’m sure plenty on here, including myself would be willing to purchase a spare or two at a price more favourable than those over the Pond
What are they asking for them presently £$?
Thanks Richard, i won’t worry about that for now then because the previous owner removed the air con pump for some reason. It’s in a box of spares he gave me. One day I’ll get round to refitting the Air Con as it would be nice to keep the car as original as possible
I wonder how many of us have plastic boot badges which have faded/scratched ‘Chrome Paint’… I would imagine quite a few considering these parts are now 30+ years old. Maybe we could all club in and get a deal for the lot doing. A ‘new’ looking badge would look great
I’m not familiar enough to say for certain but my own suspicion is that this particular cover may have been an aftermarket item and not genuine factory. My reason for thinking this is that there were no press stud fasteners or similar on it, just a sewn in Velcro strip. My own cover does have press studs and I assume is factory original. The parts book also shows press studs were fitted.
What are your covers like? With fasteners? Or just a Velcro strip? Maybe both types were supplied………? -
