Well Laurence you have almost as many plans as me. I’ll keep my eyes open for dark wood door inserts for you. Whenever I get the opportunity to do a bit more on the car it rains! Not happy
The Cabriolet (reg plate S33 TRO or S33 TKO)in the early part of Movie trailer (11 seconds in) looks red and not Burgundy as in the above picture, maybe two different cars were used in filming as the above burgundy car is seen at 2.00 minutes of the film trailer
Welcome Steven, please add a photo or two in the Gallery. We all like to nosey in there (well I do)
Great to meet Jon yesterday morning at my house and see his lovely Cabriolet, it sure is a lovely rare motor car and Jon is such a nice fella to be in the company of.
Y’all keep your eyes on the IOM trip suggestion post because we discussed this further and it’s definitely going to happen.
Anyway, Jon, hope your journey to Kent went to plan and thanks again for dropping by 🙂Great news Allan, enjoy your big Cat as much as you can. Laurence I pay my road taxes by direct debit over the 12 monthly scheme because proportionally the 6 times monthly premiums equate to less than the upfront 6 months tax figure. Besides this, if for example after a few months for some reason the car requires work potentially resulting in being off the road for a long period, you simply cancel the direct debit a week before the next due payment and make a SORN declaration on the very last day of the present month in which your last payment covered. This applies to any month throughout the annual road tax year. The fee charged for paying by direct debit is smaller that the amount paid for doing 6 months x 1 or two periods of 6 months if that the only way some can afford. Hope this makes sense, much easier when discussing face to face
Well I can work with anything that’s decided so …….. ??
Thank you Jon. There are several options on the internet but I was hoping someone had a good review that it actually worked before I made a choice. Appreciate that
Hi Laurence.
Yes I got a few sheets of veneer rather than just one in case my first attempts don’t go to plan .
I’ll likely use a very thin layer of clear tiger seal to bond it to the metal panel, can’t see that going anywhere thereafter, that stuff is awesome.
To be honest I did try to re laquer an area where the veneer was good but the original laquer is very thick and i reckon it would take quite a few applications to get it back to original, even then it might not look right. If your veneer is all intact the best solution would be to completely remove the existing laquer and then re-apply, that way you don’t risk all the effort potentially going to waste.
If all goes well with mine I’ll have some veneer left over surplus to requirements you are welcome to
Well I guess it’s best to make the most of the roads being open rather than closed, being there for a long weekend we don’t want to be held back from enjoying ourselves. Plus the traffic will likely be quieter so that’s better too. I’m flexible and happy to go along with the general consensus
Yes it certainly is Laurence, the more the Merrier and what a Beautiful Island to explore. I’ve never been so what better way than in the Cabby with a few fellow enthusiasts ?
Great stuff Jon, thank you for your efforts in regards to this idea, hopefully a few members will give this genuine consideration and a concerted effort to commit, it would be great. Traditionally, what is the Weather usually like around these suggested periods?
Yes, good point John, we will keep our options open until we know more of the detail, but yes, a jaunt does sound good ?
So guys next year it is then?? Let’s try get something organised for an IOM run. Over to you Laurence, it’s your Club 🙂
Ooh yes please, cam footage would be great to watch with a brief overview of your lovely Cabby before and afterwards. As this site grows maybe a gathering on the IOM could be feasible. Imagine a convoy of us sprinting the Course between coffee stops and doing it days before the TT Event, might even stir the Worlds Camera Crews already setting up in readiness for the most exillerating road race on the Planet. Anything for a piece of free promotional press
Wow, great descriptive text, I could visualise everything you said there John, you must have felt like King of the Road and part of some kind of event. In fact reading that has made me want to consider buying a pair of leather driving gloves 🙂
I know these cars are very capable of fast driving on straight or bendy roads but I’ve never really safely nor legally had the opportunity, maybe a Club meeting over there could be the answer to that one…..:-)What did she drive like at 100mph+ Jon Scales ( @jonscales )?
Positivity steady and quiet? I’ve only cruised at 85mph in mine on the Motorway and it was like being sat on a big comfy sofa 🙂
Unrestricted roads sound great although it would never happen on the MainlandBeing Auto John you obviously won’t get as good economy as the manual. My car does significantly better than 19/21 mpg during general driving, I’d say close to 30. I was quite surprised just how good the manual economy is. That said, there is something about an Auto in a grand tourer that I find appealing and the slightly less economy would be a worthwhile sacrifice for
