As with all older vehicles the keys tend to get old and tatty, the ones we have inherited are definitely of that ilk.
The spares that my parents had look to be ones bought off the shelf and cut to the correct shape, brass/bronzey looking. I am presuming the everyday one I use with the plastic surround is the original, but this is starting to split.
Contacting the Jaguar Heritage parts they advise they can supply the ignition key given the VIN Number, but obviously if the ignition has been replaced their part will be different. Is there a way of double checking the ignition key number? And is it possible to get a hold of a key similar to the original, Jaguar Heritage advise theirs are only the flat metal type similar to those used for the doors?
Thanks
Jon

John, look at EBay
Item Number302263307387. Is this what you are looking for? Correct WASO key.
If shipment to the UK is a problem I’m sure one of our Forum members there would kindly ship it on to you if sent to them first within the US 🙂 -

How interesting, I always thought my 1987 XJS-C Waso key was an aftermarket copy replacement, not the original key.
You learn something everyday.. so that is the original Jaguar supplied key, not very grand is it, no growler head or jag logo – just Waso!I think I might just order a replacement from triple-C- motors in Arizona as although expensive I cannot find them any cheaper elsewhere in USA and none at all in U.K. that I can find..
Mine is a little worn now and a replacement would make sense.
Thanks for that Mark.

Apparently Robin, according to the description on the listing, this WASO key was also used on Jenson Cars too but to name a few. Imagine that….

Looks like I may have struck gold!!! Spoke to a friendly locksmith that I use at work and for home bits who has apparently located some for me over here in the Isle of Man for £2.50 or so a shot. Will let you all know the result when they arrive hopefully next week, TT permitting with deliveries and road closures.

Great news John, buy them all and I’m sure plenty on here, including myself would be willing to purchase a spare or two at a price more favourable than those over the Pond

Hi Jon, I await your update as to the keys suitability but put me down for two Waso keys if enough are available.

I have been waiting for some time…..apparently there have been issues with the plastic coating, so these are still on order. I have been provided with a picture of something similar as a tide me over option…just waiting on those to arrive as well…I will let you all know as and when…
