Rolf it sounds lovely, look forward to seeing the photos when you get chance and your appraisal of it here in due course 🙂
Jon, hopefully I’ll get to see you and your Cab at Warwick later in the year so I can take a proper look and photos:-)
As a newby to Jaguar ownership 31mpg is sounding great for such luxury and style. Very pleased I chose the 3.6 over the V12
Oh well at least you tried, never give up though, sometimes the impossible is possible:-)
Saw this company statement on an eBay Xjs item. Sounds like they have experience of carrying out Manual Conversions and worth a telephone call at the very least:-
“We have many other performance modification especially for the V12’s such as manual conversion, throttle bodies and much much more! Please see our other listings. Over 30 Jaguars in stock for parts. We are specialists in XJ’s!
For all enquiries please call or email the Simplyperformance team directly as it will result in a faster and more efficient reply. Jon@simplyperformance.com – 07796 002321 – Please do not message through eBay. If you do please leave a contact telephone number. The design of the two Hoods illustrated look different to me. One has a more wrapped round shape in the rear quarter window area resulting in the hiding of the little bodywork triangle to the bottom left of the glass. Personally I really don’t like the look of the bottom Hood at all, looks rather cumbersome compared to the top cars hood which looks more sleek.
According to the Parts catalogue official Convertible hoods were offered in Black, Blue and Brown and interestingly they also made what is listed as a hood cover for transit use which was in Jaguar Green. This transit hood looks like a full Hood without a rear window panel at all, just entirely material. Has anyone ever seen one of these or even possess one? ( cannot see anything similar for the Cabriolet)Thanks Bleasie for that information, I like a bit of Trivia now and then. Vin 148574 is definitely showing as a V12 Cabriolet in the parts manual however I forgot to originally state it shows as JDHT Owned if that has any bearing on it?
Regards the first 3.6 Cabriolet and the following 7, what’s the story behind their destruction? Were they used in testing etc?Ooh a white 3.6 Cabriolet, my favourite colour ??
Sounds lovely Rolf. What colour combination is it?
Great pictures ??. I almost bought a Red example i went to view near Keithley, just a few weeks prior to the purchase of my Blue car. It was a bit highly priced for the overall condition for my liking but from 10 yards away it looked a Million Dollars. I still have a photo of it which I’ll share if I someone can explain how to download it
?
You’re a braver Man than me Gary, especially in regards to the removal of the cars front windscreen. The hardtop window I might have had a bash, but not the main front one.
You make it sound quite easy, which I’m sure it wasn’t. What were the tricky bits? How long did it take you?Yes Laurence it would make sense to get the cheapest and in Silver considering most discs usually are that colour. It will be interesting to know how they perform and what your overall thoughts are when fitted. Please let us know 🙂
Hoping Nick might see this and get in touch. I’m up for the Cafe Largo meet on 17/6 ( in events section ) and maybe Nick could consider linking up for the meet too. If anyone has a way to contact him it would be good to know:-)
In my Diary, as long as the Weather isn’t forecast to belt it down, or some other unfortunate event pops up, I’ll be in.
At that price I suppose it’s worth a shot, plus depending what Alloys you have fitted, the appearance of drilled and grooved discs through them will add a touch of speed from a visual perspective. What colour did you go for?
Thanks Bleasie, it could well have been Nick. Thanks
Laurence, check EBay item numbers 111592541415 and 401314401692 as just two examples, other colours are available. As the brake calipers are set back from the hub face these can be fitted without any difficulty. They are not solid covers but have the drilled disc appearance and will certainly reduce the amount of brake dust reaching the alloys hence cleaning will be less frequent and easier overall. They come in pairs so you’ll naturally need two sets, cheap enough too 🙂
Let us know if you order someInteresting, being sat for a Month and causing your brakes to do that seems a bit severe, six Months I could understand it. Anyhow, just way it is sometimes I suppose. What work did the garage do to the brakes and have they improved compared to how they usually felt/performed prior to the short layup?
Yes Steve, it’s always quite reassuring to know what the going rate generally is for such items and that what you may have assumed were potentially costly, were in fact reasonable, as it appears in your case:-)
Such items are desirable but as Laurence says, it’s a lot of ££££’s and unfortunately beyond my budget, even if it appears to be in nice condition.
The other one at £1000 sounds more reasonable, depending on condition, for as Steve pointed out, restoration costs are not cheap.
Hopefully there will be a way to help the Member in Rome. There are often small Transportation Companies who frequently cross to/fro Europe and the Mainland GB. Might be worth putting details about it on Anyvan.com to get some quotes. I’ve used this before to get a full interior set for a Lancia Delta Integrale from Germany to me here in Selby and it was only £220.00 all in!!
A wooden box could soon be knocked up from Lat and 5mm Ply to contain the Hardtop wrapped in Bubble wrap for protection -
