Well despite the above eBay sellers let down, I’m now in possession of this badge, not one,but two of them!! Both have at some point been repaired where the letters join each but are still correct and complete. Only upon very close inspection can I see the join has been superglued back together. Presumably upon removal this happened. The little rear pegs are also missing, no great drama. Plus they are in need of the chrome effect paint reapplying due to general wear etc.
Main thing is that i am no longer missing a very important correct boot badge

Apparently Robin, according to the description on the listing, this WASO key was also used on Jenson Cars too but to name a few. Imagine that….

Modern Supercars are definitely Super in their own way however I’d take the Cabriolet every day, just look at it sat there between those, looks stunning! And look how small the Cabriolet looks in comparison, just goes to show how elegant they are

Laurence, give Jack Smith Trimmers a call in Swansea, he’s a professional upholsterer and soft top manufacturer and his prices are very good indeed. He replaced my Fathers soft top and new plastic rear window on his Alfa Spider for considerably less than anyone else and the job was 1st Class.

Have you tried the plastic cleaners specifically for these rear screens Laurence?

They are quite good, I’ve used this (eBay 391496956911 ) on several Convertibles in the past and it does work. Depending on the severity, you might need several attempts. If you can restore the opaque one then you’ll not have the hassle of trying to stitch in a new one which won’t be easy unless you’ve some experience.

The idea of a solid Perspex screen sounds great but the bulkyness when folded down wouldn’t suit the Cabriolet that well aesthetically. I don’t favour the Convertible for that reason. Even with a Tonneau cover it still appears intrusive to me. The Cabriolet is discreet and neat. Having a plastic folding screen is a small price to pay.

I always ensure the plastic screen is evenly folded across the entire length without kinks thus helping to keep it looking great.

Officially Jaguar maximum size is 16″. Original size and recommended tires will give you the best ride and speedometer accuracy and of course give the correct rating for such a heavy fast car. Be careful what you fit as a lot of modern 17″/18″ alloys are not really designed for such cars as these. Remember they are very fast and much heavier than what one might think considering how agile they are.
Jaguar knew what they were doing all those years ago 🙂

The second car is especially nice, great price too. Is that a Lap belt hooked onto the windscreen pillar in photograph 3? Not seen that before

Hi Richard, looking at the Official Jaguar parts Catalogue, from your description it sounds like the Vacuum valve. If exchange of email is allowed here forward it and I’ll forward you a diagram etc

Hi Richard, is your car a 5.3 or 3.6? Cabriolet or Convertible?

Well well well, I came across a breaker on EBay who offered me this badge for £40.00 after I enquired about one being available on a Cabriolet he was parting out and he said he would try his best to remove it from the car. Despite several voice calls and messages his last replies were that he wasn’t hopeful it could be removed but would try his best and let me know. I never got a reply after that. The breaker has now listed the badge for sale on EBay for £99.00 + postage. That was one dirty trick !!!

I don’t know how to do it, same as adding photos or using all those other features in boxes above. I know they’re there for something but what and how to use i haven’t a clue 🙁

Hi Laurence,I don’t see that powder coating would work as it involves serious heat which would just melt the badges as they are made of plastic. There is a chrome mirror finish spray paint available however the preparation in masking the badge would take a long time given the intricacies in the badges design. Might just chrome spray the entire badge and not bother with the black edging

Thanks for that detailed information:-) i don’t doubt you for a minute and so it appears an error has been made in the Jaguar Parts Catalogue-(eBay item number 332230177416 and only £14.90 delivered )
regarding Vin 148574 as it is clearly there in print on page 149.
The parts book has been a great point of reference because it shows parts in their component order of assembly and makes stripping down/rebuilding much easier to understand
