Hi Roman @romanhoudek
Hopefully you have had time to take a good look around our Club website since you joined as a member. Have you seen we have a Club meet up planned on Sunday April 22nd at The Bull Hotel in Gerrards Cross ?
Could I ask that you please reply to this discussion topic so members may know a little about you and XJ-SC Cabriolet ownership in London.
Feel free to join in conversations in other Discussions posted by fellow Club members too.
Thanks,
Laurence

Split off from the Launch discussion (this one) to one of its own US market 3.6 Cabriolets that were converted from LHD to RHD

There is a couple of possibilities for this visit and get together, and once I know more I will share here along with possible dates. We’ll then see if we can find a date where most of us can attend so no one misses out.
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterThanks John Bleasdale @bleasie for sharing these.
I do like the fact you’ve been able to identify the actual cars that were there at time – is it known where each of these cars are now ?
Laurence
P.S. I do like the hand drawn Cabriolet poster

I think your view is quite credible – after all the early pre-Jaguar XJ-S Soft Top bodyshop conversions were to create full Convertibles rather than a Targa Topped Cabriolet.
I’ve both Convertibles and Cabriolets and they are very different experiences, and there might have been merit in having both models if they’d been designed from the ground up at the same time. Then the Sales folk could have directed purchasers towards the most suitable Soft Top for their needs and location – with our UK weather the Cabriolet does work well 🙂 and the full Convertible works well in the southern US.
I do like driving my V12 Automatic Convertible, but do wonder what a V12 Manual would be like – especially in the Cabriolet. That for me (until proven otherwise by actually driving one) would be the best combination.
Anyway, just thoughts and opinions shared.

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Gerben Haringsma @gerbenharingsma
While I couldn’t solve your problem, I do recognise the solution – on my XJS 4.0 litre coupe there is a mysterious tiny bulb in the engine bay, that when removed makes the oil gauge at the top.
Glad you solved it.

I will see if I have that piece on my ‘scrap’ instrument cluster – I will let you know later

Looks like eBay have shut down that link already – it says is sold out.
Was it a supper condition car at a bargain price ?
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Mats Johansson @mjoh
Nice that you have a Cabriolet without too much rust – especially the sills.
It is difficult to re-glue the original headlining back up, because it has a backing that crumbles to pieces (which is why they come down in the first place).
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterBrugge was very nice, as was Gent which we visited yesterday and walked around the Christmas Markets.
Unfortunately the wind picked up and the New Year fireworks in Brugge were cancelled 🙁
Last year we couldn’t see them as the Fog came down at 23:45 and lifted at 00:15 – think we’ll have to come back next year (third time lucky).
Journey home was smooth with fairly clear roads – though we had a lot of heavy rain driving between London and Birmingham.
Completed just over 2,100 KM / 1,200 Miles on the round trip.

Are you referring to the Chrome Windscreen surround ? If so, why didn’t you mention it before I came over to Belgium last week – I’ve got a spare I could have brought over for you !!
As David Wardale @robertdavidwardale says, these are riveted in place – they are easily drilled out and replaced by a small screw. What you do need to be careful of is fitting, to make sure you don’t put a bend in it as you won’t get a crease out.

Laurence JonesKeymasterLaurence JonesKeymasterHi Gerard Harings @gerard-haringstelenet-be
The rear window rubbers tend to go hard and crack and perish.
Quite a few members mentioned that they were seeking new rubbers but none were available so I paid for a number to manufactured (reverse engineering from an original). I’m selling these at cost, so need to sell all of them before I recover my outlay.
Cheers,
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Gerard Harings @gerard-haringstelenet-be
I have been hoping to sell a few more of the rear window rubbers to recover my money before I spent any more.
However, as folk are waiting I think I will just get on and have these Targa rubbers made. Watch this space and there should be news by the end of January.
John Mirco @mircs is also waiting.
cheers,
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterEnjoyed a lovely Italian meal and a few hours good company with 4 of our Belgium members today (Guy, Pascal Mathieu @barto , Gerard Harings @gerard-haringstelenet-be and Lionel Martin @belgian-lm .
Thanks to. Guy Roelandts @guyroel for choosing a great meeting venue.

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi John May @rujamajoco
Your Cabriolet is a lovely green
If I do keep and restore the V12 Cabriolet I acquired last year then I think I’ll respray it that shade of green rather than the lighter green it currently is
Try and keep 22nd April free, as we have a Club meet up planned in Gerrards Cross – which hopefully isn’t too far for you to make.
Laurence
