Hi,
The weather forecast for this Sunday at Warwick, according to the BBC Weather App, is that it won’t be hot and sunny.
But then, weather forecasts accuracy in England do tend to be hit and miss
I’m booked to go, taking my 4 litre XJS Convertible.
Hope to see as many of our Club members there as can possibly make it
Cheers,
Laurence
Hi Kevin,
I’ve actually taken the hood roof off my Cabriolet at the moment (have sent the mechanism off to get it re-chromed), so it wouldn’t be too much of a challenge to post it across to Ireland for the work to be done.
Hopefully it will work out for you and if he’s reasonably priced I’m sure he’ll get plenty of repeat business (not just mine but others are seeking to do this).
Laurence
Hi Kevin,
No, I’ve not been successful in my quest, though I’ve contacted quite a lot of places.
I’ve found a couple of places that will replace the whole hood and screen (at a cost) but I was trying to avoid that as the hood itself is in reasonable condition.
Please let me know how you get on
Laurence
Hi John,
I still have not found anyone who can replace the screen for me (other than the complete hood and screen), but have taken the hood off my car to see what is involved myself – I will let you know how I get on
Removing the hood is not that difficult. You basically undo the 4 hex bolts (2 each side) that hold the chrome roof assembly in place and the hex bolts located round the base of the hood itself (across the boot) and it all lifts off

Hi Nick
I’ve sent you a personal email, as I am selling my 1985 Jaguar XJ-SC 3.6 litre Cabriolet (next step in my downsizing from 5 XJS to just 2 – a convertible and a cabriolet)
Cheers,
Laurence
Hi Rod,
I disbanded the Shop because it was costing me money to run – I get no sponsorship, only the odd donation via the Donate button
At the moment there are no Targa Top rubber seals or the Rear Window seals left. I am however considering commissioning some more to be produced, though again this is a big investment and I need to judge production numbers right versus the individual item costs
I will keep you informed of what my next steps will be
Laurence
Hi Jean,
Thank you again for your suggestions,
hopefully I found somebody near me to do the job.
I have agree to bring the car in October so that I can enjoy the summertime and then do the job in winter.
I hope it will work.
kindest regards
Marcel
Hi Stefano,
I have the same problem, unbelievable but it is 1 year I am trying to find somebody to restore the hard and soft top, this matter seems to be a very difficult one.
Any way now my car is at Galbiati in Casatenovo , Lecco , a top place for restoring old timers Jaguars, where we made several upgrades on the mechanics and some small body works
The job is nearly finished and I want to get the car for summertime but in October she will go back for soft and hard top revamping.
Considering how difficult it was to convince them to do this second part of the job, maybe having 2 cars to work on they will be more interested.
I understand by your surname that it is possible you are somewhere around north Italy.
if you can consider this option as interesting pls let me know so that we can speak with Luca Galbiati about this opportunity
If you like you can see my car in members album .
Looking forward
kindest regards

I think it is easier when I send somebody to pic up and pay in cash.
pls give me your address so that I can ask to one of my driver to come and collect directly at your place. it could probably be next week or latest the week after.
thank you
kindest regards

19th February 2025 at 09:06 in reply to: where can I restore soft top and hard top Jaguar XJ-SC #20452Hi Jean,
thank you for your suggestion.
It would be hard for me considering that my car has 2 hard tops plus a soft top and even professions are reluctant to do the job.
more than this I don’t have the age for such an challenge !!!
All the best
We also appear to have lost a number of the discussion topics and replies, which might have occurred when I had to restore some of the data 🙁
Laurence
Hi Kees,
What a stunning colour, and I love that you have the wheel caps in matching colour.
Laurence
Hello Peter – @PDT1966
There are a number of members who do have the Hard Top so hopefully one or two will respond to your request for information.
Do you know if you have all the necessary catches on the Hard Top itself, and the ones you need on the car – or is this some of the questions you have ? I did have a hard top when I first had the car (but sold it on), and seem to recall you need to remove the soft top’s mechanism and replace it with a catch, but I stand to be corrected by someone who still has one.
Cheers,
Laurence
Thanks Jim, I’ll add that to my article notes.
