Welcome @dogbitefred.
These forums are just the place to introduce yourself and ask questions if you have any 🙂
Hopefully one of our Members will have the answer for you

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi @geoffconnor
The Targa roof is in two sections, one over the drive and one over the passenger. There is a leaver on each targa panel, which you pull down and turn (this unlocks the targa panel). You need to remove the targa panels in the right order, as one overlaps the other.

13th March 2022 at 20:08 in reply to: Production Figures – Update Convertible – 4L – Manual Getrag 265 gearbox #19093Laurence JonesKeymasterHi @tobr
I think I read somewhere that the 4litre Convertible was only available with a manual gearbox option until 1987 when an automatic gearbox option was available. That might mean there were quite a few produced in the early years of production, but towards the end when yours was produced it might have been a lot lower with more folks going for the automatic.
I’ll keep my eye out for some official statistics.

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Colin,
I think this discussion thread is a great idea.
I’ve sketched out a draft instruction guide in our Articles area – New Targa rubbers replacement but it is strictly a work in progress guide. It will need to be updated with exactly the feedback that you’ve suggested is recorded here in this discussion thread – practical hands on answers from members who have undertaken his job.
Thanks,
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Martin @martinhaley
Do you know what sort of items this company undertakes to remanufacture ?
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Jarl ,
Thanks for joining us at the XJS Soft Tops Club, which is bigger than the old forum used to be and now includes members who have XJS Convertibles as well as XJ-SC Cabriolets.
Great view of your car, don’t see many photos taken from that angle
Glad to hear you have lots of fun driving
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Robert @bob-woft
Have you managed to find some photos to upload yet for us to see DOLORES ?
May I suggest you contact Car Hoods Direct as there website is advertising replacement hoods for the XJ-SC Cabriolet and also on the site for the XJS Convertible.
Please reply back to this message to let us know how you get on.
Cheers,
Laurence

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Craig @craig87xjsc
Thanks for such a long and detailed introduction to yourself and your cars – I can see an opportunity for the story of your Cabriolet to become an article in the Club’s Newletter (which I’m overdue in sending out…..). Hopefully you’ll be able to upload some photos of it soon to your Member’s Album for us all to see (if you have any problems you know how to get in touch with me).
You will find in the Articles section one that has some of the background details and statistics for the XJ-SC Cabriolet – Click Here. I’ll also look up some of the background info on your car – though I’m sure Bryan Thomas @bryan-thomas-1 will have more information to share that I have available to me.
Cheers,
Laurence

I’ve not seen any photos, but from Marnee’s profile it is a White 1987 5.3 Cabriolet
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Christopher @cwfarlowhotmail-com
This was happening on my XJ-SC and the cause was the two rear window seals. The water was getting in around the window and running down the inside of the bodywork and filling up the locker boxes with water.
As soon as I replaced the rubbers on the two rear window seals the locker boxes have remained dry – and mine does go out in the rain 🙂
Cheers
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Tomi @arkisto
It does look like a very neatly prepared and maintained car
Have you found all the information you are looking for, or do you still need some answers ?Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Mark @rokgod
Whilst it’s true that all the Jaguar built Cabriolet’s started life on the factory floor as Coupes they were all registered as Cabriolets – we have the range of VIN Numbers for these.
A number of companies converted Coupes themselves into early Convertible and some as Cabriolets (using Jaguar parts).
I’d be interested to see some photos of your car, and see what we can find out for you about its history.
Cheers

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Trevor @trevorkent
I’ve had this jam on two of my XJS. The first freed itself by me pushing the reset button intermittently as I drove along. The other I had to take the console to pieces and free the jam – I then left out the reset button so it couldn’t happen again.
The Oil pressure gauge issue sounds like a loose wire, rather than a faulty gauge to me – though I’m sure there are others on this site who could give some good advice.

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi marnee @marneej
Have you had much interest in selling your cabriolet ?
If you’ve some details and photos then happily share them here, including your general location.
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Chris @chrispowell1
The convertible has a single locker box lid, while the cabriolet had two separate compartments/lids. I’ve found the cabriolet approach actually better in practice than the large single lid the convertible has.
On eBay at the moment there is a cabriolet locker box for sale – 323623429920 – which could possibly be fitted to your convertible (I’ve not got both the convertible and cabriolet stored near each other so can’t actually check this myself).

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Guy @guyroel
Following on from what Paul @paulf42 and Ian @ianmitchell suggested, I was wondering if the article I wrote about improving the dashboard lighting is of any help to you – https://xjs-soft-tops.com/articles/improving-xjs-dashboard-lights/

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Gary @garybonnell01
Is the wood on a Hess & Eisenhardt interior is still the same size and pieces as would have been on the original XJS Coupe (which Hess & Eisenhardt did the conversion on, or did they come with bespoke woodwork (maybe a picture of your current woodwork would help).
Cheers,
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Steve @sjbbeb
Sorry no one has replied to your message sooner.
I came across this problem with my convertible last year when getting it out of storage (it had got condensation damp) and everything was very stiff. I sprayed every visible hinge/joint with WD40 and down into as much of the concealed mechanism as I could – then spent a happy time raising and lowering the roof, initially with hand assistance, until everything loosened up (kept the engine running as guessed I’d soon flatten the battery).
Hope that helps,
Laurence
