Laurence JonesKeymaster
Hi Richard Hartwell
I will take a look on Monday evening when I’m up at the garage where the car is currently.

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Gerben,
I do think that somewhere I have a pair of these in good condition. The door cars themselves are not in good condition, as the hardboard has got damp and turned into tissue paper.
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterMark Thorley I seem to remember being told that the original gear knob on our cars is a really heavy one, for the specific reason of stopping the whole gear lever from vibrating
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Bob Flint
I’m going to guess it’s a metric thread, but how do you measure it – is it the diameter of the bolt, but how do you determine the thread type, or is there only on pitch (or whatever thread coarseness is measured in).

Laurence JonesKeymasterHi lloyd roberts
How was Silverstone ? I hope there were plenty of folk interested in your Cabriolet – any photos to share ?
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterLaurence JonesKeymasterHi Mark Thorley
I think if I followed that approach as one long list for all 4 of my XJS then it might be too scary to start on – to have everything laid out in a “to do” list 🙂
If we just focus on the Cabriolet, the my top item (now the roof is sorted) is to strip the multi colour doorcards and recolour them – the interior was originally red and has been covered (more or less) in Saville Grey). Not certain that the grey is the best colour, but as the seats are of this colour and in reasonable condition I’ll probably go with it.
I want to replace the rear parcel shelf piece, as mine’s not in good condition
I do need to replace the wood veneer – thanks for the suggested items on eBay recently. I’d like these to be in dark wood, to match the steering wheel, but as yet can’t find a set that includes the door pieces (might do this a bit at time).
I have considered replacing the ski-slope tray with a wood/veneer version, but that’s a nice to have rather than need to have.
I’d like to re-chrome the roof assembly, but for now I’ll leave as is – I may next year get a new hood made (but can’t afford at the moment).
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterSorry Martin Ball there are not any mudflats on the car

Laurence JonesKeymasterLaurence JonesKeymasterLaurence JonesKeymasterHi Norman Thomas
There should be this still on the 3.6 XJ-SC that I’m now breaking for spares – I’ll get someone to take a look for me tomorrow and I will let you know.
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterI’ll check for you on Monday Martin, as can’t recall off hand.
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHi Allan Dunsford
Does that work like a pay as you go scheme, so you don’t have to register/tax the car for the whole year (and then cancel the tax and get a refund for the months you don’t use – at less the monthly payment you paid to the Government).

Laurence JonesKeymasterLaurence JonesKeymasterIt has been mentioned that if any of the folk who had been on the Entente Cordial runs with Albert and Mary Scales were able to come to the Isle of Mann they’d be made most welcome. Mary Scales may well come across and stop at Jon’s while we’re over.
Trevor Kent I know did a number of trips with Albert and Mary.

Laurence JonesKeymasterPlease remember, it doesn’t matter if you’ve not been active with your Jag for a while, just tell us what you hope to be doing with it in the future 🙂
Therefore please, whenever you visit do find time to create a new Topic when you next visit, or reply to an existing one – even this one.
As the British Telecom Advert used to say – It’s good to talk
I’d also like to say hi to the following members, who visit the site from time to time but haven’t felt they’ve much to say on any of the past discussions :

Laurence JonesKeymasterThanks Jon Scales ( @jonscales ), with ideas like that we should be able to do a variety of vists/activities.
My thoughts are :
1/ Easter being 1st April is probably too early, weather wise – I don’t fancy a rough sea crossing 🙂
2/ Bank Holiday weekend 5th – 7th May works best for me
3/ I’m wary that price increases and possibly road restrictions might impact our long weekend.Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterHave you got some replacement veneer Mark Thorley ( @m164 ) ?
Are you using heat resistant glue – just thinking of things getting hot in direct sun !
I’m really interested in the lacquer stage – I’ve some pieces where the veneer is good but the lacquer has pealed off.
Laurence
Laurence JonesKeymasterJon Scales ( @jonscales ) and Mark Thorley ( @m164 ) I think this is a great idea, and I’m up for it.
I’ve created an Event in the Event Calendar Here where members can register their interest and comment.
