Gutted : used AutoGlym’s “Soft Top Clean and Protect” kit…….and it turned my lovely rare blue SC top to boring black ! Hoping it’s going to fade back to blue….

      Hi Keith,

Oh no, that is not good to hear – have you contacted AutoGlym for advice on how to clean their cleaner off ?

      Have you photos ?

I haven’t contacted AutoGlym….I suspect they would point to the bit in the instructions where it says ‘try out on a less visible area first…’. I am not quite sure where that would be on a car hood….plus there is the doubt over whether the hood has gone black because it’s wet or because…. it’s gone black ! The cleaning product is colourless/white so I guess it has removed the blue…at least temporarily….still have fingers crossed that it ‘fades’ to blue (perhaps on imminent trip to France, if the sun is shining there). A photo now would just be of…a black hood.

As a matter of interest, can XJ-SC tops be re-covered ? Where ?

I’m sure they can be recovered, but might take some practice to get the canvas to stretch and stick neatly on the curves. Should be possible though.

I’ve had great success recolouring both Cabriolet and Convertible roofs, using this Canvas Dye. I’d imagine it would work well recolouring blue back to Black.
