Replacing Radio Cassette with CD player

I’m wondering if anyone has replaced the original radio cassette with a later CD Player, and importantly is there a CD player that would be a direct swap.

  You undoubtedly already know this, but being a bit of a tech dinosaur I have only just found out — you can buy a cassette / Bluetooth adaptor which will allow you to play digital (MP3 ?) music thru the cassette player…..if your cassette player is still working.
