Brake Dust

The front alloy wheels get absolutely covered in brake dust on my car.

I once saw something mentioned that there was a disc that somehow when behind the wheel and acted as a dust shield.

Does anyone know what I’m referring to, whether they are any good at their job and whether it’s possible to source them anywhere.

  I had them on my X300 as standard they certainly seemed to as when I used to remove the wheels for cleaning they were certainly fun of dust Never heard of them on the Jaguars.

  Laurence, check EBay item numbers 111592541415 and 401314401692 as just two examples, other colours are available. As the brake calipers are set back from the hub face these can be fitted without any difficulty. They are not solid covers but have the drilled disc appearance and will certainly reduce the amount of brake dust reaching the alloys hence cleaning will be less frequent and easier overall. They come in pairs so you’ll naturally need two sets, cheap enough too 🙂

  At that price I suppose it’s worth a shot, plus depending what Alloys you have fitted, the appearance of drilled and grooved discs through them will add a touch of speed from a visual perspective. What colour did you go for?

  The silver ones as we cheapest – just to see what they’re like. If they’re any good I might spray black if they don’t look right (but should be OK as silver)

  Certainly not what I thought you were looking for Mine were tin just slightly smaller in diameter than the inside of the wheel.
  You placed them onto the wheel studs before you fitted the wheel,

  Yes Laurence it would make sense to get the cheapest and in Silver considering most discs usually are that colour. It will be interesting to know how they perform and what your overall thoughts are when fitted. Please let us know 🙂

  I recently fitted these to my front wheels of my facelift and had to fit them so that the outer curved edge faced outwards, as if it faced inwards it fouled on the brake caliper.Their was not a lot of clearance from the brake calipers (about 2mm).
  Unfortunately these did not stop the brake dust.
