    Hi John,

    Steve has registered as an XJS Soft Top Enthusiast Member (i.e. non owner).

    The full site’s membership of Convertible, Cabriolet and Enthusiast can be seen using the “Members List” menu on the main menu.

    We had a very successful meet up at Hestmonceux Observatory on Sunday (4th June).

    We had 4 member’s Cabriolets and 3 XJS Convertibles there – and the weather was lovely and warm (but not too hot that we all burnt).

    Thanks to Gary, David, Richard, Richard’s brother in law, Vincent and Steve for turning up, and to David for inviting us to attend the JEC Jaguar day.

    Looks like we’ll have a couple of cars joining me at Herstmonceux this coming Sunday, with a possibility of one or two XJS Convertible owners I met at the Wessex JEC show yesterday (Sunday 29th May).

    If anyone is thinking of coming but hasn’t let me know yet, please get in touch so that we can be sure to have a suitable area set aside for us.

    I’ll have a go at trying to improve the opaque (one corner first maybe) and see how it goes.

    One of the reasons I was considering having a go at changing the cracked screen with a new one is that the hood itself is in better condition than the other hood. Ideally I’d invest in getting a complete replacement/refurbished hood, targa panels and head lining, but as I mentioned in another thread a huge chunk of my petty cash (XJS fund) has been swallowed up replacing the oil cooler on my LHD Convertible recently – so seeking a way low cost way to improve the Cabriolet for this summer if I can.

    Hi Mark,

    There are different types of Powder Coating, and there are ones that don’t use very high heat levels – indeed I’ve seen them demonstrated with a powder coated Coke bottle, and those bottles use quite a low melt temperature plastic.

    It will need some testing (trial and error) but I’m hopeful. I’ll let you know 🙂

    Hi Mark

    Something I’ve considered is to have these items powder coated, as you can get chrome powder coating powder. You can mask items off and only powder coat sections – so might be possible with care to have chrome front face on black badges

    I’m hoping to buy myself what’s required, for doing small items like the badges, sometime over the next month or so and give it a try myself, I’ll let you know.

    Hi John,

    I’ve not come across any red hoods being on offer for the XJS convertible, so I’ve taken a look at the Paul Skilleter book you mention

    That photo shows to me what looks like the Tan roof, not red. The an almost exact example belongs to a Hess & Eisenhardt version of the XJS Convertible – it appears in their advertising literature (all be it from a different angle with a glider behind it).

    I think I have seen other examples with the Tan hood, but not Red.

    Nothing wrong with the Rover SD1 – I had a one for several years – replaced the 2.6 with the 3.5 🙂

    The silver ones as we cheapest – just to see what they’re like. If they’re any good I might spray black if they don’t look right (but should be OK as silver)

    Hi Peter,

    I guess you either like the XJS or not, and when you do some of us get the urge to have more than one (nothing wrong with that). There are several folks on this site, like myself, that have both a Convertibles or a Cabriolet and a Coupe (or various combination).

    Your cabriolet looks very nice. I like the yellow/gold coach lines – mine’s the same Signal Red as yours but I’ve Silver coach lines
