7th March 2017 at 15:08 in reply to: Sunday 19th March – Coffee and a Chat – Overton, near Winchester at 11:00 #3541
I’m aiming to meet up around 11:00 Sunday morning somewhere around Winchester, with relative easy access from the M3 (for onward journey. Could anyone please recommend a venue, with suitable parking for a few Jags 🙂

The facelift 4.0 litre models do have Cruise Control as an option< so you might be able to retro fit one to your 3.6 Automatic Trevor. I have a donor 1995 4.0litre XJS auto, with Cruise Control, which at some point in the future I'm hoping to dismantle and reassemble in either my 1994 Couple or possibly the 1993 Convertible - all something for the future at the moment I'm afraid. Laurence
I had it in mind, that I’d attempt to dismantle the right hand parking wiper assembly on my LHD convertible, and swap it with the left hand parking wiper assembly in my RHD convertible – but I’m guessing nothing is that straight foward….
🙂
That looks very helpful information there, thanks John.
Fully understand the “ain’t broke, not fiddle” concept – just that it’s a real pain in heavy rain to have extra water dumped infront of the driver on the cars that park the wiper on infront of the passenger.
When it’s not so cold I’ll take a look – I’ll let you know what I can see.
Laurence
Yes, it does seem random.
I’m thinking of trying to get the two convertibles wipers swapped around, but I’m betting that it won’t be straight forward.
Not having got to the point of taking things to pieces to have a look, but are the mechanisms distinctly different (i.e. different part numbers) or is it a matter of disassembling the existing and reconfiguring it to park the other way round?

20th February 2017 at 18:26 in reply to: Monday 20th Feb – Jaguar Enthusiasts Club Greater Manchester Region #3085Well its a wet and dreary night, but I said I would so I’m going to go to the local JEC meeting at the Heaton Park Hotel tonight in my XJS Cabriolet.
Hope I won’t be the only one who’s brave (or foolish) enough to venture out with their precious Jaguars
Laurence
Looks a nice car – if only California was closer to the UK, and withoug so much water in between.
It would have been nice to have to drive around Europe in too.
Laurence
Hi Roland,
It would definately be good to see photos of your car.
Laurence
P.S. I’ve updated your profile as somehow the transfer from the old to the new also moved you to Morroco – mind you it also moved enmass our members living in South Africa to Saudia Arabia….If any member would like to let me have content that can be made up into an article for everyone to read in the Articles Section then I’ll happily prepare the document on this site.
Just email your text and pictures to content@xjs-soft-tops.com
Picked up my car from the garage tonight – all sorted.
Turns out the fluid was going around the piston rubbers in the master cylinder, effectively making them completely non effective. Once had pumped them the fluid moved back around the rubbers and sort of gave some braking power again.
New Brake Master cylinder fitted and good firm effective brakes now – and the bill wasn’t too bad either.
Happy 🙂

Hi Andrew,
I am just crafting an article on exactly this topic, as both the lights on my 1984 Cabriolet and my 1990 LHD Convertible have appalling instrument cluster lights.
I have greatly improved the lights on the Convertible by taking the instrument cluster to pieces, removed the speedo and rev counter gauge dial fronts. Then I proceed to remove each of the little green domes (which cover each instrument light) – then put it all back together. I was actually taking the instrument cluster to pieces for another reason, which was to change the KPH speed face for a twin KPH/MPH dial face.
This has made a reasonable improvement to the backlighting of the dials – in fact is probably good enough (yet to do the same on the Cabriolet).
I imagine that that with the little green domes removed then higher watt bulbs can be used, as there is then nothing in the way to melt.
I have also looked into replacing the usual filament bulbs with led versions – which I’m yet fully investigate.
I do need to get on and write that article now, as it includes photos (I have them somewhere) of each dismantling stage).
Laurence
Is that as new, or has it been restored to look as clean as that ?

13th February 2017 at 22:37 in reply to: Welcome to James Dunne and Tony – who have migrated across to us #2724Hi John,
You should definitely be able to see a member on the List of ICR members call Tony, who was a member of the old site. Separately I’ve emailed Tony requesting a surname.
Roy King was one of 5 members who activated their accounts yesterday, though not sure all have actually logged in yet – no rush 🙂
Cheers,
Laurence
That’s interesting to hear, and I can see the layout issues in your other post – about the XJ-SC.
I will do some digging and see if something is causing the problem, and whether it can be fixed or overcome.
I’ll keep you all up dated.
Laurence
Glad to see you’ve mastered the art of including photos into Discussion Topics.
Can you tell us some more Bryan about the Wind Deflector – I’ve not seen something like that before.
On my Convertibles I’ve had to put a mess screen behind the driver and passenger to stop buffering – but it makes it really awkward to get things into the locker box etc, so would welcome a better way to deflect the wind.
Laurence
Care – please use lower case [photo as it doesn’t appear to work if you use capitals.
Please be aware that it isn’t really possible to put two photos side by side (even if it looks like there is room) as for most members their screens will show them one above the other.
Photo 327 does not existThis results in two photos one above the other, effectively joined together.
Therefore, please be careful as you may get unpredictable results if you add too many photos to one post – try to keep it to just 1 or 2 photos added to a Topic or Reply.
Hi Kim, welcome to the new site.
Sorry for the delay in setting up your Photo Albums and extending your membership to the Cabriolet Owner’s section, but I only do this once folk have actively logged into the site. Its part of the transition of membership over from the old site to the new one.
I hope you’ll find it worthwhile visiting the site regularly, and feel comfortable joining in the various Discussion Forums.
Laurence
Hi John,
Testing is good thing to do – You’ve missed the word photo after the first square bracket
Photo 312 does not exist
Cheers,
Laurence
