Hi Martin,
I will do that tonight for you
Laurence
Hi Mark Thorley that’s a good point about fabric shrinking. Martin Ball trimmers are probably aware of that fact but it might be worth him mentioning it to them.
Cheers,
Laurence
Hi Mark Thorley glad to see you’re having fun.
I do like this photo of yours
I spent Saturday working on my XJS Couple (now finished replacing all the interior) and on my XJ-SC Cabriolet (swapping over hoods from the donor car). Then today all of us went to Cheshire Steam Show and had a good look at Traction engines and various Classic Cars – but as there was 6 of us we went in the Land Rover (and appreciated the Air Con).
Might be worth noting. I have two different Tonneau covers.
One has the Velcro strip around the boot edge, but nothing on the inside of the car edge (no Velcro and no poppers). When fitted this tends to allow wind to get up under the Tonneau cover on the inside of the car edge, so I intend to fit female poppers on that edge myself (if I can find suitable that mate with the male studs).
The other has no Velcro strip, but has poppers on the boot edge and the inside of the car edge.
If you follow Alex’s note above, you’d end up with best of both worlds – Velcro around the boot edge and poppers on the inside of the car.

Hi Malcolm Wyatt ,
Here are some photos of the bonnet and doors
Please let me know if you are interested

Yes please Russ @russccptd-net , we could add that as a short article for others to read in the future (as these discussion posts get lower and lower on a list of 100s over time).

It’s the thought that counts Gerben 🙂
Site Shop has now been launched – please take a look
Laurence
Hi Gerben,
If you can hang on a few weeks it might be worth taking a look at what I’m hoping to introduce as stock in the Site Shop I’ve just launched.

Unfortunately at this time Martin Mere Wetlands Centre are unable to allow access to their Café without everyone paying nearly £12 entrance fee. At some time in the future they intend to allow access, so hopefully we’ll be able to do a Meet Up there.

Hi Malcolm,
I’m heading over there on Wednesday evening so I’ll take some photos and get in touch.
Gearbox has been sold however.
Laurence
Hi Malcolm,
Here is the photo you uploaded
I’m breaking a 1984 cabriolet – let me know if there are any bits you need and if they’re still on the car then maybe I can be of some help Breaking CabrioletLaurence
Glad someone reads my posts 🙂
Laurence
Fair point Bob.
Once the garage has removed the engine/gearbox I think I’ll go over and take whatever bits and bats still left off the car – my wife will be pleased 🙂
Laurence
If you’re able to upload some photos to your photo album Mark, you could either add them to this post or I can for you.
Laurence
Thanks Mark for that bit of trivia – but…..
Who drive their jaguar most themselves in, say, the first 3 years of ownership.
Just a thought 🙂
That’s great news Trevor, really pleased about that news.
Wish I had time to go on a few day/week tour in one of our XJS, but have to restrict it to annaul holidays or long bank holiday weekends for now.
Laurence
Decision has been made to break the car for its main parts (thereby keeping other XJS on the road) and weighing in the remained for scrap (which won’t be much these days).

* 5 speed Manual Gearbox – SoldOther parts available include
* Good Front Subframe with all suspension parts
* 3.6 Engine with new clutch – £400
* things like the rear axle, diff, brakes etc
* Bonnet
* Doors
* Boot – little rusty along the bottom (which sits behind the lower boot panel)
* Some exhaust partsIf any of the above are of interest to anyone, or there might be a part or fitting on the car you need, then please get in touch

membership@xjs-soft-tops.comHi Alex,
You’ve not missed it – I’ve been away this weekend and not had a chance to sit down in front of the computer, but hopefully in the next couple of days I will have time and write this up as an article. I’ve plenty of photos to include.
Laurence
Looking at the weather forecast for this Saturday we could be in for a dry day for this meet up.
We’ve space reserved in the Cafe for us all to sit together and have a morning tea/coffee and a cake, or settle down to brunch 🙂
