Most interesting, I would have expected the conversion to be to a full convertible as the parts were available at that time rather than a cabriolet which was designed for the pre-facelift body shell.
In response to Bleasie posting about the vin for a ‘non-cabriolet’ I put up a couple of conversion ads for interest from 80’s/90’s in my photos..

Bleasie, Just to show you are not alone I respond by stating the maybe obvious..
7th Letter denotes variant ie. C= Cabriolet, D= Convertible and E= Coupe

So it’s a RHD auto, 5.3, HE Coupe not an original Cabriolet. Interesting..

As I’m sure your aware from your Register work there were several companies offering conversions from coupes to cabriolets as well as full convertibles. I don’t think Lynx did cabriolet conversions (just convertibles) but Banbury Auto Services advertised in 1984 & 1985 in Motorsport & Jaguar Driver. TBM International were advertising as late as May 1998 for their conversions.

I posted a couple of pics of adverts in my General Photos as I don’t use picture hosting..
BAS conversion offered tilting targa panels too, be interested to see how that was achieved!

Hi Laurence, thanks for taking the time to set up the new site. I was never quite sure whether the icr was a dormant old site or not! A hangover of the original Cabriolet Register..

Now I know it’s real and maybe as a new user can I ask whether/how I can see where a ‘participant’ is i.e. Country or U.K. County maybe and what model xjs they have.

I ask as if your engine hesitation issue is on a V12 I have little input but if it’s a 3.6 then maybe I do..
Also not much point suggesting I could loan a spare ecu /throttle body to try if ‘participant’ is miles away or in USA..

I’m not good on forum use so maybe I just need to turn something on or click on a profile label I’ve not found!

Kind regards, Robin Rainsley – Cheltenham uk 3.6 manual cab.

Hello, there are many forums/sites that cover vehicle detailing (it’s an industry in itself now!) and soft tops in more detail than I can so I won’t restate at this time but have a look at a company called ‘Renovo’ who have been around awhile now.
I have used their soft top cleaner and dye with good success in the past. Works on targa panels too.
Their web site is helpful and details processes for soft top cleaning and preservation. I have only used ‘black’ version (kit of cleaner/proofer/dye) so cannot endorse their other products or newer interior products.
Looks bit costly on their web site – £63 for a full kit but often seen better offers in magazines etc. Think mine was <£40 but good few years ago! Expect maybe better pricing on eBay/amazon..

Alternatively you cannot go far wrong with Autoglym products, fair price & consistently good IMHO.

Let us know how you get on and what product you try.

              Hi Richard,

Just a courtesy reply as I’m in the UK and to be honest don’t remember seeing these available anywhere here or in Europe recently. Haven’t seen any new ones on eBay either only the front quarter light seals.

These BAC7743 – LH & BAC7742 – RH aren’t available from Jag Heritage nor Targa panel seals..

I’ll keep an eye open and if you find a source let me know as a useful item for future resprays..

Most seals tend to be standard profiles cut & bonded to shape/length so I suppose possible to get batch made up worst case?

              Regards, Robin – Cheltenham, England
