One of our member’s has an interesting XJS Cabiolet, which definately won’t be being recorded on the International Cabriolet Register.
Chris Leeson’s Cabriolet is an “after market conversion” of a 4.0l AJ6 XJS Facelift Coupe, that was converted by Paul Banham in 1996
I know there have been other “after market conversions” of XJS Pre-Facelift Coupes to Cabriolets, but I’m sure I’ve not come across one that’s been done to a Facelift Coupe.
With this site covering all XJS Soft Tops, I’m pleased to include Chris’s car, and am keen to highlight other variations out there. I have updated the XJS Ownership page now to include a field to state who built the member’s Cabriolet or Convertibles, with an area to give breif details too.

Most interesting, I would have expected the conversion to be to a full convertible as the parts were available at that time rather than a cabriolet which was designed for the pre-facelift body shell.
In response to Bleasie posting about the vin for a ‘non-cabriolet’ I put up a couple of conversion ads for interest from 80’s/90’s in my photos..Robin

Had a look at the photos pity they don’t enlarge but you can clearly see the rear quarter light is original so with the hood up you could easily spot it was a conversion no matter how good the conversion it was, I could never understand why people had them done you could buy a genuine Cabriolet for less than a conversion.

Hi Robin – great clips. I’ve rotated the one that was sideways on for you.
Bleasie – if you actually click the photo in the album it opens into a full size photo – just presse The go back button on the left to return to the Gallery.
As posted elsewhere, I will be adding ability for members to add thier photos into posts, but relying on a supplier’s release date for some code they’ve changed for me.
