      Hi Russ,

You can get a Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Heritage Trust (about AUD100.00 from memory). You can also get a rough idea at xjsdata.com. A previous owner may have logged your car in their database, or you could browse a VIN range to check details for cars either side of your VIN. Warning – the browse functionality can be inconsistent.

      Cheers, Ian.

Thanks for the news Bryan. I only knew Bleasie through this website, but he came across as a decent guy with a passion for Jags. Condolences to his family and friends.

          Hi Don,

Some ideas to narrow down your build date …

          * Apply for a Production Record Trace Certificate from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust website (cost involved). This gives you the production data of your car, including build date. It’s a nice thing to have.

          * Contact John Bleasdale on this website. He has a lot of data pertaining to these machines and is very helpful.

          * Go to xjsdata.com and browse for your car using the 17 figure chassis number (starts with SAJ). If your car has previously been registered there you may find some useful info. If not, they give you the registered chassis numbers before and after yours. This may help you narrow down your build date.

Also, have a look in the “Articles” section on this website for an article titled “XJ-SC Production Figures” … some good facts there!

          Good luck, Ian.

            Hi Don,

My understanding is that Jaguar took back the Cabriolet conversion from Tickford in 1985, after the V12 Cabriolet was introduced in July. Not sure of the exact date, or any identifying Tickford markings that may have been stamped.

That said, if yours is a 3.6 built before July 1985, then it would have been converted by Tickford.

            Cheers, Ian.

              Hi Guy,

I haven’t removed the instrument cluster on my ’87, but the manual says to remove the driver’s underscuttle casing first … not sure why as it doesn’t appear to impact the lower edge of the instrument cluster!

              Cheers, Ian.

                Hi Bleasie,
Mine looks to have 5036 stamped in it (hard to tell as the paint has filled in a lot of the first and third digits).
                Cheers, Ian (VIN 147465)
