XJ-SC Hard Top – where do these rubbers go?

Started 13th June 2026 at 07:45 · Adam Singleton

Hi Experts, with the hard top I recently purchased, the PO had a bag of rubbers that he says came with the roof.  (It was never previously used).  As you can see in the first 2 pics, there is a thick rubber with a lip on one side.  I assume this sits on the back of the car and the hard top sits on this rubber.  Am I correct?  Which way around should it be fitted?  Also, how do people attach it to their cars?  Or does it attach to the hard top first?  (I assume I will need to remove the velcro that is currently on the car for the soft top?)

Second set of questions, there is a roll of very thin rubbers like the 3rd pic.  This one and a matching one have a corner shape.  Are they for the front / top edge of the hardtop and for around the window frames?  How should they be fitted?

Appreciate any information anyone is able to share.  I am going to “fully” document (with pics) removing the soft top and fitting the hard top, so it “hopefully” will help others in the future.

Thank you, Adam

      Hi Adam
The thin rubber strips (approx 1mmThk x 30mmWide) are glued to the hard top to form a continuous strip around the edge of the hardtop if i remember correctly it is made up of 5-pieces (2-curved and 3-rectangular).The thick rubber piece fits to the bottom rear of the hardtop and is held in place with a metal retaining strip made in 3-pieces which would have originally been pop riveted in place.
      Hope this helps

      Hi Adam
These additional photo’s show the metal retaining piece (3-sections) which holds the heavy rubber in place.
