Fuel tank related Q’s….

What capacity is the fuel tank in a XJ-SC ?! Mine appears to be 60ltrs. At least, when I have twice run out of fuel completely that’s the amount I have subsequently brimmed it with. Seems ungenerous when compared to an XJS’s 90 ltrs ?

And re running out of fuel….is the  XJ-SC fuel gauge ‘float assembly’ (?) unique / unobtainable ? Does anyone have a spare ? My gauge never reads more than half full, but appears to be accurate for the lower half of the tank eg ‘fuel low’ light comes on. Now that I understand its foibles I will pay more attention to it !

      Hi Keith,

The XJ-SC Cabriolet was built on the basis of a nearly completed XJ-S Coupe, with the modification concentrating on cutting off the roof and also adding some strengthening metal work. The fuel tank as far as I’m aware, retained the original Coupe’s – hence why you can retro fit rear seats from a Coupe into a Cabriolet, complete with the rear seat belt mounting points being there ready for you to use etc.

The Jaguar XJS Handbook lists the XJ-SC fuel capacity as 81.8ltrs / 18 gals (as opposed to the XJS 90.1ltrs / 20 gals) but I definitely have 60ltrs from running dry at the side of the road to brim full……is the fuel pick-up dangling in the tank ?! Is it possible my pick-up is dangling only 2/3 way in the tank ?

Anyone got a spare working fuel gauge float assembly ?!

      Keith.
