Success. I cut into the other red/slate wire from the light switch, through the in-line fuse and then into the rheostat that way bypassing the short in the dash somewhere. Quite pleased but I note lots of talk about how dim they are. Just happy to have them at the moment. Cheers

Just a note that I think I cut into the wire going to the bulb failure unit. There were two red/slate wires out of the lights switch and I knew I had a 50:50 chance of getting it right and I reckon I didn’t. I’ll move the bypass to the other red/slate wire which would normally run the fuse box this weekend and see how that goes. Fingers crossed. Martin

          Laurence,

I like the round head lights on your XJSC. What year is yours? I have seen them on early 85 XJSCs here in Oz and they changed here during that year. One day when all the other jobs are done I may swap over.

Yes, I have a Disco 4 like you. I also have an XJ8 as a day driver and a Rover sd1 as well. Pretty tragic really but hey….

Guys, I have fixed this problem with my XJSC. In my case, the float was partially filled with fuel and therefore reading low. If you take out the sender unit and unclip the float give it shake and it you hear fluid there your problem. I had this problem with a Mini Moke a long time ago and believe it or not the XJSC plastic float is the same as a mini. I thought it looked similar when I took it out of the jag. Ordered a new one from ebay, inexpensive, and very quick fix. Hope yours is that simple. Regards
