FF44 – 4l XJS facelift convertible

Started 6th January 2026 at 20:48 · Laurence Jones

Hi all,

I’ve had this engine check message a few times on my 1990 XJS Convertible, generally occurs when I’ve needed to put my foot down to overtake someone – which is a real pain as just after you get past the car goes into a sort of limp mode and you loose most of the power (not good)

I’ve done an internet search and it came back with the answer below, but what I could really do with is someone please to explain what it all means, and importantly and usefully tell me what these items look like (send me a picture even). Then I might be able to work out how to fix it

The Jaguar XJS FF44 engine check code indicates a problem with the Bank A (right side) oxygen (O2) sensor circuit, signaling the ECU isn’t receiving feedback voltage, often due to a bad sensor, wiring issues (corrosion, breaks), or poor grounding, and sometimes related to fuel delivery or ignition problems.
