Any issues with a battery cutout?

Started 11th October 2026 at 13:41 · Keith Houghton

I’m planning to fit a remote cut off switch to my 89 car.

Has anyone had issues disconnecting the battery on a daily basis?

I have used one of these remotes on my 2001 Jeep without any issues.

Hi Keith, and welcome to our Club.

I’ve one fitted on my 4l Facelift Convertible, because it was constantly draining the battery (small draw all the time for clock and computer I’m guessing), and had no problems at all with it. Remote control was fine.

I fitted one to my V12 Convertible for the same reason, but had issues when the battery itself got a bit tired. Having the unit sat between a tired battery and a chugging great V12 on engine cranking proved too much at times. The battery was marginal and the kit was enough to prevent engine firing, healthy battery and all good.

It’s a pain that the clock looses its time all the time. I did contemplate putting a rechargeable battery under the dash that kept the clock going and was charged when the engine was on (battery switch on) but haven’t solved that yet

      Cheers,

      Laurence
