Raising the rear roof on an XJ-SC Cabriolet is straightforward — it is either up or it isn’t. Lowering it, however, is more subtle. The rear roof can be folded in two different ways, only one of which allows the roof cover to fit correctly. This short guide explains the correct method, why it matters, and how to avoid the common mistake that leads many owners to think their roof cover has shrunk.

Putting the roof up — simple and obvious

There is only one way to put the rear roof of an XJ-SC Cabriolet up. If it is done incorrectly, the problem is immediately obvious: the roof will not stay in place, or the interior will quickly get wet in the rain.

Lowering the roof, however, is different.

Lowering the roof — where owners often go wrong

When folding the rear roof down, it can be lowered in two different ways. In everyday use, you might get away with either method. The difference only becomes apparent when you try to fit the roof cover.

If the roof has been folded incorrectly, the cover simply will not fit properly — no matter how much effort is applied.

Incorrect method

The incorrect method is to fold the rear roof down with the catch visible.
