      Hi All,

I’ve been approached by a couple of members asking if I pull together an article around the locking mechanism found on the Targa Panels on the XJ-SC Cabriolet.

I’m looking for the following assistance please :

1/ photos of the Targa Panels with mechanics exposed

2/ photos of the mechanism pieces

3/ How you’ve repaired the link that breaks (pictures would help as well at details

4/ any other related information that I can encorporate into an Article on the subject of these Targa Panels and there mechanisms.

Let me know if you want to send anything to me via email

      Many thanks

      Hi Laurence,

I repaired the targa panel locking mechanism when I first bought the car over 23 years ago. The pin had pulled out of the sprung tab that locks the panel. Previous people had tried to weld it. My solution was to bend the rod slightly and then epoxy resin the rod in place. The kink in the rod gives you something for the epoxy to grip on, so the rod doesn’t just pull out. I avoided rapid epoxy as I always do.

      Hope this helps.

Thanks Jim, I’ll add that to my article notes.
