oil pressure mystery

ignition off , no oil pressure

ignition on, oil pressure at 5

start engine,oil pressure at 7

rev up moves out of scale.

cleaned contacts on instrument gauge.

changed sender unit to new one.

Visualy checked wires as much as possible.

any one,to help solve the mystery ?

      mystery solved !

      a resistor has to be instaled,getting the 5 back to zero.

      Hi Gerben Haringsma ‍

      While I couldn’t solve your problem, I do recognise the solution – on my XJS 4.0 litre coupe there is a mysterious tiny bulb in the engine bay, that when removed makes the oil gauge at the top.

      the tiny lamp was your resistor ?

      the resistor should be 15 ohm.
