Lovely looking car Mark. Hess and Einhart did some early rag tops and I think some others did a version too before the original soft tops came out. Looking at the row of popper buttons you have on the rear of the roof it looks like yours is possibly one of the rarer pre factory jobs. There may be some sort of ID plate Hiding somewhere on your car stating which company was responsible for the conversion. I don’t think this makes any difference to the value but makes it more interesting.

My pre He has a cloth interior, it was an optional extra apparently. There was an Xjs-c that had been refurbed by a college for a course and that had a Burberry interior.

How high are your revs at idle? It sounds more like the car is trying to drive rather than the gearbox clunking against the transmission tunnel.

As far as I can remember there are only three screws but you must release the one in the middle at the top first. Once the short piece of plastic trim is removed you will be able to pull the two half pieces of trim down from the top centre line as I believe that the bottom sections of the trim are tucked down the side slightly, making it difficult to remove them. Good luck with it.

Don’t forget that the radiator in the V12 is a two stage rad. Is it possible that there is a blockage that’s restricting flow somewhere near the sensor? It may even be the sensor itself.

                Hi Laurence

I’ll see if I can make it. I could only bring one as I don’t have a trailer so it would be the one that looks best at that time.. (neither are in show condition but are presentable to a fashion)

                  Hi Laurence

When I fitted mine I just upgraded to LED lamps from a car spares so I used the original holders and all. Just be very careful that you don’t damage the copper tracking at the back because if it is loose, it will easily snag when you’re putting the plugs back in and you won’t find out till you’ve got it back together again (I know from experience, I have no water temp at the mo and have got to take it out again)

You can buy all the LEDs on eBay in a set for around £10

My pre he has stainless wiper arms.

Here is an eBay link to the blades and holders but I’m afraid you’ll have to try some jag spares for the arms.

Hi Laurence, thank you for approving my membership. I happened to be mooching through the internet, typing ‘ XJS’ in and by chance came across this site. It certainly looks interesting and will give me plenty of reading to keep me going.

I have been ‘Jag’ nut since I was old enough to know what they were. My aunt used to have a series 1 xj6 in Heather. The reg was BUD50J. I used to love being in it. I myself had several of them when in my late teens, they could be had for peanuts.

I’ve had my current XJS convertible for about four years now. I also own a ‘79 pre he in white that has been converted to manual and has a 3:5:4 diff fitted. Neither of them are in show condition but they are good all round driver cars. To me, the best time is in summer when I can drive around in the ultimate pose mobile that jaguar made..
