Replace the heater water valve infront of the firewall and check that there is a vacuum from the manifold to open the valve. My valve was corroded and stick closed and the rubber hose had a crack so it was loosing vacuum. Heater flapper in mine is a bit lazy and I hear a clunk a minute or so after I make a change. Another job for another time. 🙂
Hi Laurence, if you had wheel cover and the targa top bag then I am certainly interested. Please let me know, cheers
Martin
Hi Laurie, do you happen to have a spare wheel cover for the boot? Also, did the XJSCs come with bags for the targa tops to store in the boot?
Regards
Martin
Thanks Norman, it is impossible (for me) to get up and under to locate the ‘nut’ as such
What I did notice was that with all my pushing trying to get it to bite the thread on the screw was a bit damaged. I found a longer bolt and it grabbed nicely and it is secure. I suspect the thickness of the material was just too much for the screw to grip.
Anyway, minor issue but fixed so that’s good
Cheers

Hi John, yes, that sounds right. I had a SD1 VDP once that had a wind deflector as part of the sun roof which spanned the width of the sunroof. I wonder how effective such a small deflector is? Was this an option on all cars or just US? Regards, Martin
You guys have probably already discussed this before but what is the flap above the mirror on US cars? Cheers
Martin
Don’t we all think that? Just had a new alternator fitted. Worried I have an overheating problem as well. Mine is red as well.
My 85 XJSC Australian delivered V12’s number is 1252 SAJJNACY3CC126830. One off Eddie Panton’s 1251. Is there a pattern here? Regards Martin
Thanks David, I’ve put some clamps on it for the time being. No clunk from the heater flap after one drive, fingers crossed. Regards Martin
My experience with this issue was that the float part of the sender unit was partially full of fuel. It must have sprung a small leak and the fuel weighed it down and the gauge read low. Very easy to removed the sender unit but do it with low fuel in the tank, float clips out easily. Also the float is the same as those on a mini (at least it was in my 85 XJSC). Gauge reads much higher although not always to Full. Regards Martin
Thanks Lawrence, much appreciated. Let me have a crack and I’ll let you know how I get on. Regards
Hi Steve
It cost A$440. It took just over 4 hours to make

MartinThanks to Greg in the Forum I was able to borrow a XJSC Tonneau top and had a copy made last week with a very pleasing result. I’ll post a photo on the photo site. Regards Martin
Hi Laurence, I’m after a right rear mudflap. Something taken a nibble out of mine. Any luck?
Thanks Lawrence
I reckon I’ve got it now. Yes, the car has the hex head bolts and I understand the need to folder the soft top back to expose the velco for the cover to mate to. Thanks for the patience here. I have waited long enough for a black one to come up on ebay, time to act. The next project is the cruise control 🙂 Regards
MartinThanks Laurence,
My car has five popper studs along the the top of the panel above the parcel shelf. The top I am having copied has the poppers. What I don’t get is the velco. When you put the soft top down do you pull up the soft top velco alng the top of the boot and tuck it somewhere so there is velco on the car that mates with the soft velco on the cover.
Thanks for the guidance here. Regards Martin
Laurence, thanks for that. Two types – didn’t expect that. The one I have to copy has the velco and my original post was working out how to fit that onto my car. Can I ask a favour, could you photo the two covers you have front and back and I’ll compare with my car and the one have to copy. I am hoping to avoid a future problem here. Many thanks
MartinThanks, that is really good advice
Regards
MartinThanks Laurence
Very interesting article. I’ll look at the LED options as a first step and see how they go. I would like to put an LED in place of the fibre optic bulb as well. Regards
