        Hi,

i am thinking of fitting a stainless steel exhaust to my 3.6 cabriolet, so can anyone recommend a suitable UK company to supply this for me.

I want a reasonable priced/quality product that fits easily and sounds good.  I have experience of trying to fit after market parts as I suspect most of you have also.

I once fitted one to a Morris Minor and it gave a totally different acceptable sound to the car.

DMG sell a system for £810 inc vat so does anyone have one of these fitted to their car?

        Regards

        Alan

          Hi Alan,

I’ve been thinking about this but so far, I’ve not found any “off the shelf” systems for the 3.6 engine, so I’m interested in your comment about DMG – I’ll check that out.

          Regards,

          Norman.

            Hi Norman

I have had some good recommendations about a company called Longlife. They build bespoke systems and I have received a quote of £850 for a full system for mine.  They use a very good standard of stainless steel, this being 304 grade.  It is a franchised company, but if a local company goes out of business your exhaust will still be covered by another one that is the nearest to you.  It will take a day to fit it as the exhaust is manufactured during that period.  I have had a concern that the resonance of the new exhaust would sound tinny, but feedback that I have received has been good about this concern.  DMG off the shelf system is about £810 + delivery + fitting and I cannot see on their site what grade of steel they are made of.  My feedback is off the JEC site.

              Hi Alan,

Thanks for the info. Out of interest, do the systems you mention include a new manifold, or is it just new pipework connecting to the horrible original twin manifolds?

              Cheers,   Norman.

No it does not and I have yet to see a system that includes it.  No doubt someone will state otherwise.

                  Hi Norman,

i am asking this question to Longlife as they did say it included the front pipes, but not sure if this referred to the manifold.

                    Hi Norman ,

The price includes the front down pipes but not the manifold. In the diagram mine is the pipes without the cat.

Sorry this picture shows the front pipes.

                        Hi Alan

Are you going ahead with the Longlife fitted exhausts ?

When you say franchised, does this mean they sell through a local exhaust centre or a ‘man in a van’ / ‘lady in a van’ fit on your drive service ?

                        Laurence

                          Hi Laurence,

I am going ahead with this but it will be in April when my car is back on the road.  This company have depots ( I need to inspect) all over the country and the nearest to me is Leeds & Hull so the car will be left there for a maximum of 2 days.  The next job for this year will be cooling system, fuel and breather pipe replacement, as I do not see any receipts for these in my car history. This will be done in the summer, as my brother who was a car mechanic and lives in Australia is stopping with us for 4 weeks so he will help with this. He is not aware of this yet, but I feel he needs to keep his hand in with car repairs ( his is only 72). He will like to go to the classic car shows as he would have worked on many of the cars on display.

                          Regards

                          Alan

I gave £140.00 for a second user Falcon stainless exhaust. Fits well and sounds great.  Shop around…..there must be more out there

                              Hi Steven,

i keep looking for a used 3.6 system but as yet not found one.  I know it takes time but there is a lot of luck involved.  Replacing the exhaust is on my list, but it depends on what other work crops up. I have just built some extended ramps so it will help me have a closer look at difficult central areas of the car.

                              Regards

                              Alan

                                Hi,

Just had my car fitted with a stainless steeel exhaust by Longlife in Hull.  I love the sporty, throaty sound of it now which gives you the impression of more power.   I retrieved most of the old system which consists of the front “Y” pipe, the 2 front boxes, the offside rear box and the offside over axle pile.  The rear box and pipe is only about 1 year old.  If anyone needs these please make me an offer.  My car is a 3.6 manual.

                                Alan
