To anyone that may be interested. It has been muted recently that a possible jaunt to the Isle of Man could be a good idea sometime next year. The following dates are of reference and may provide an ideal opportunity.

        Manx Motor Racing Club

They offer a hill climb and sprint event usually later in April, for 2018 the dates are as follows; 26/27 and 28th April. Could be a good one to get a number of soft tops together.

        First May Bank Holiday

        4/5/6th May

        TT 2018

Practice Week (includes Whitsun May Bank Holiday) 26th May until 2nd June
Race Week 2nd June until 8th June (Senior Race Day)

As yet the Steam Racket (Steam Packet) have not released pricing for April onwards, this will go onto their systems in September/October time. If this years pricing is anything to go by I would expect a car and 2 passengers for a weekend/long weekend to be approximately £200 if booked far enough in advance. Depending if this is a goer for anyone, there are loads of places that could gice a good run, around some interesting roads. And don’t forget the chance to take your soft top around the whole of the 37.73 miles TT Course, where you will be able at times to open her up.

A few possibilities for places to visit and would be good to get pictures of the cars together.

The Sound, has a nice Cafe, overlooking the Calf of Man

The Lady Isabella (the largest working water wheel) also know as the Laxey Wheel. A couple of nice pubs just below the wheel.

Niarbyl, again just picturesque with a nice Cafe

And one for the bikers among you as well – The Bungalow, just along the Mountain Mile on the TT Course

Great stuff Jon, thank you for your efforts in regards to this idea, hopefully a few members will give this genuine consideration and a concerted effort to commit, it would be great. Traditionally, what is the Weather usually like around these suggested periods?

Jon Scales ( @jonscales ) and Mark Thorley ( @m164 ) I think this is a great idea, and I’m up for it.

I’ve created an Event in the Event Calendar Here where members can register their interest and comment.

Yes it certainly is Laurence, the more the Merrier and what a Beautiful Island to explore. I’ve never been so what better way than in the Cabby with a few fellow enthusiasts ?

Hmmmm….what can I say about the weather….predominantly we get a south westerly up the Irish Sea. It can change within minutes. This year late April early May was reasonable. TT was very variable….the first two or three days of practice were cancelled so they had to squeeze in where possible. It was only real the tail end of practice that improved and then ran into race week. If it was tail end of May, ie TT practice week, evenings are trickier around the course as the road shuts at 6 and does not reopen until 9:30. Race week the roads shut during the day.

Well I guess it’s best to make the most of the roads being open rather than closed, being there for a long weekend we don’t want to be held back from enjoying ourselves. Plus the traffic will likely be quieter so that’s better too. I’m flexible and happy to go along with the general consensus

The second two options on dates are probably better for me. That way I can make the most of getting the Cab MOT’ed and Taxed as late as possible in the year to bring it back over here. If we have enough then I will talk to Manx National Heritage and hopefully be able to park the cars up below the wheel for a nice photo shoot.

Also I will have a chat to a nice hotel up in Ramsey to organise bed and breakfast. The car park is not covered but it would be good to have all of them lined up outside. It is also quiet in the evenings.

Thanks Jon Scales ( @jonscales ), with ideas like that we should be able to do a variety of vists/activities.

                        My thoughts are :
1/ Easter being 1st April is probably too early, weather wise – I don’t fancy a rough sea crossing 🙂
2/ Bank Holiday weekend 5th – 7th May works best for me
3/ I’m wary that price increases and possibly road restrictions might impact our long weekend.

The last option, Practice week will have more restrictions in place definitely….Both Road wise and Accommodation, many places are booked up from one year to the next….In terms of the Practice Week, Saturday 26th roads would shut at 6:00pm and not re-open until 9:30’ish, Sunday they would be open all the time and then the Monday would be the same as the Saturday. Also, they make the mountain road one way for the TT these days and other stretches where the speed limit is de-restricted have speed limits imposed. Advantage of the mountain one way is that you can let fly over there and not worry about lanes, but we would have to book Accommodation pretty much now.

Need to get the translation checked but we could have something along the lines of Jaguar Dy Kiune Boare Tinvaal Turrys – or Jaguar Soft Tops Tynwald Tour.
