Hi John @bleasie
Do you know if any V12 XJSC’s were fitted with ABS brakes which I think was part of the general XJS MY1989 update. I have seen some pics of 1988 XJSC cars with the newer style seats, steering wheel and cross spoke ‘lattice wheels’ which I thought were also all part of the MY1989 updates but at least one of those is not with ABS from the under bonnet pics that I have seen??

Scott S.

Hi John,
I think your answer got cut off mid stream?? Also, I was referring specifically to the Cabriolets and in particular the last of, 1988 built cars, with regard to the possibility of any having ABS brakes?
Cheers,
Scott S.

Hi Scott, According to Paul Skilleter in the Appendix to hiS XJS book:
March 1988 for 1988 1/2 MY – VIN 147269 Teves ABS introduced.
Also stated as VIN point V12 Convertible introduced. Therefore I imagine no XJS-C’s were built with ABS, though from Bleasie’s Records there were 80 V12 Cabriolets built in 1988 – I assume these were pre March 1988 build though but I’m sure John B will know more..

Thank you Robin, all very interesting though as to why some of the late Cabs had the ’89 ( 88 1/2 ?? ) series seats, steering wheel and cross spoke ( latice ) alloys?? Hopefully there are some definitive factory records somewhere of the running updates…
Regards,
Scott.

Hi– ok if what Mr Skilleter is correct then between 147269 6th Dec 1987 & 148594 Last Cabriolet built 18 April 1988 166 Cabriolets could have ABS
143 LHD & 23 RHD 8 were UK cars and 3 are currently taxed,
Hope this helps
BLEASIE.

Hi!
I didn’t know that the latest Cabriolets had ABS. However, I do know that a Norwegian-registered Cabriolet (VIN 146690), supplied new to a client in Oslo, Norway in January 1988, probably the last cabriolet supplied new to Norway, did have the later Convertible style seats, steering wheel and Lattice rims. According to what has been mentioned above it would seem this particular car did not have ABS. -

Hello, Most interesting, if only eight RHD V12’s with possible ABS exist would make them rather rare in UK. I wonder if any members with a Cab VIN 147*** are out there to confirm..
Quite possible though that Jaguar used up remaining non-ABS components on last cabriolets..As a separate thought I have always wondered if any ‘sport cabriolets’ were built in 1987/88 ie. Recaro seats, revised steering wheel, springs, lattice wheels with 165 tyres and roll bar when they were introduced on coupe & convertible
Regards, Robin

I’ve written out to all Club members who have late model Cabriolets, and of those that replied none have ABS fitted.
